Camp St Therese News - Camp St Therese will not host summer camp for the June 2008 season. We are in the process of reorganizing many areas, mainly the fundraising, finances and the Board of Directors. The Directors and administrative volunteers and staff are working very hard to provide funding and scholarships for the future so that many more campers can enjoy the experience of camp. For all the campers that have attended in the past, our pledge is to improve all areas of the camp so you can return as campers or even as camp counselors. If you need more information, please call Mary Mosier @ 559-439-0124,#103 or mmosier@stanthonyfresno.org. Have a safe and wonderful summer! Camp Saint Therese started in 1992, with a group of parishioners from Our Lady of Victory Church and through the last 14 years has expanded throughout the whole diocese. Camp Saint Therese is now a ministry of St. Anthony of Padua under the direction of Msgr. Coelho-Harguindeguy. Bishop Steinbock is happy to endorse this camp and attends every year offering a Mass with all the kids. The first year had an attendance of 60 campers and last year there were over 100.
Camp is intended for children grades 3 - 8 Camp this year will be held at the YMCA Camp Gaines near Lake Sequoia, off of HWY 180, about one hour east of Fresno Some of the major activities for this year's camp are daily Mass, hiking, religious education, boating, swimming, kayaking, star gazing, games, and plenty of arts and crafts.
The paintball activity is offered to campers ages 11-14 at an additional cost of $10 per game. The camp directors, counselors, and staff members are volunteers who give their time to foster spiritual growth in each camper. Qualifications for counselors and staff members are those who display the qualities of Christian faith and moral conduct, relate well with children, and possess good judgment skills. Together we work to create a week of fun and education for all. The camp directors are in the process of recruiting counselors for this year. Anyone who is interested in being considered for this position should call the camp office. For camper registrations or more information regarding the camp, please call Edith DeFendis at the camp office at 439-0124 ext. 241. |
